Financial close, accounting and steering

My foundation is solid Finance expertise.

I have been responsible for monthly and annual financial close processes, led planning, budgeting and forecasting, reviewed balance sheet positions and accruals, supported consolidation processes and worked closely with auditors, tax advisers and group functions.

My accounting and financial close experience includes:

• 16 years of IFRS

• 12 years of the Swiss Code of Obligations and Swiss GAAP FER

• 4 years of HGB

This is complemented by experience in impairment testing, company valuations, M&A Controlling, investment appraisal, liquidity management, working capital, cost accounting and management reporting.

My background therefore extends beyond strategy, FP&A and business partnering. I also understand how reliable actual figures are produced – and why planning and steering cannot work without a dependable financial close.

 

Systems, data and technology

Finance only works today when processes, data and systems interact effectively. I have therefore not only used IT systems, but also selected, implemented, managed and developed them from a functional perspective.

My systems experience includes in particular:

• SAP FI/CO and SAP SD

• Workday ERP

• Workday Adaptive Planning

• Microsoft Power BI

• SAP BPC

• DATEV

• Odoo

• Excel and Google Sheets for modelling, prototypes and pragmatic steering solutions

As a System Owner and Power User, I have been responsible for models, hierarchies, versions, access rights, documentation and change processes. This also included data flows from ERP systems through planning solutions to Power BI, automated data updates, validation checks and exception logs.

I can therefore translate requirements from Finance and the business into technically implementable solutions – and assess technical capabilities in terms of the concrete value they can create for leadership and steering. Today, I complement this experience with targeted use of AI-assisted analysis, quality assurance and automation. My professional journey

I assumed my first leadership responsibilities as Publishing Director and Executive Board member of a media company in Prague, initially under Swiss and later German ownership. I had full P&L accountability and operational responsibility for a company with 150 employees and supported two changes of ownership, followed by the company’s integration into the market-leading group.

I then established central project management at a major Czech logistics company and led the selection and implementation of the SAP FI, CO and SD modules. Later, as Managing Director and Executive Board member of a Slovak media company under German ownership, I was responsible for a turnaround, the reorganisation of central functions and preparing the company for sale.

From 2008 to 2022, I worked in senior Finance and Controlling roles at what is now TX Group in Zurich. My responsibilities ranged from financial close, planning, forecasting and reporting to pricing, performance steering, business cases, restructuring, M&A, ERP projects and strategic initiatives.

I have worked independently since 2022. Alongside Interim and Fractional CFO mandates, I served as Investment Manager for the Swedish corporate group Storskogen and as Co-CEO/CFO of one of its German portfolio companies. Today, I support companies particularly where commercial leadership, performance steering, Finance Transformation or a demanding business decision requires additional seniority and capacity.

 

Education and international background

I hold a Master of Advanced Studies in Corporate Finance from the ZHAW School of Management and Law in Zurich and Winterthur. The programme covers Accounting & Controlling, Corporate Finance & M&A, and Corporate Banking & Treasury. I am also a Certified Financial Modeler.

Before that, I studied International Business at the Prague University of Economics and Business, Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, and Computer Engineering and English at American River College in the United States. These studies shaped my international and technical background from an early stage and form part of the broad perspective I bring to Finance and leadership roles today.

Professionally, I have worked in Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia and have assumed responsibility within international structures.

I work at a professional negotiation level in German and English; Czech is my native language. I also speak Slovak, as well as some Russian and French.

A personal note

I am interested in what really lies behind a company: its history, its product, the logic of its business model, why customers buy and why the company is relevant in its market.

For me, this is where good Finance work begins – not with spreadsheets alone, but with a genuine understanding of the business.

I see myself as a translator between ideas, economic logic and entrepreneurial reality. I turn strategic concepts, growth ideas and operational challenges into robust decision-making foundations, business plans and concrete next steps that fit the organisation and create real impact.
